What is E911?
Olivoice provides Enhanced 911 (E911) calling. With E911, your call is routed to the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) that supports the service address you registered with your account. The emergency operator receives name, address, and phone number of the caller automatically. ![]()
Are there any limitations for 911/E911?
Even if we provide E911 in your area, there are still some limitations for VoIP Emergency Dialing services. Therefore, we strongly advise you to always have alternative means of accessing the emergency service.
To be able to access Emergency Dialing you need to have a functioning telephone adapter, full power to your house and high speed internet. Electrical power outages and disruptions to your high speed connection will disable the Olivoice service, so you will not be able to access 911 Emergency Dialing. ![]()
How can I enable Emergency Dialing with Olivoice?
Emergency calling is automatically enabled for you as part of the service. So you do not need to request the service. However, you will need to fill a 911 Service Address Form once you sign up.
Please remember that you must select a primary number that is related to your Service Address otherwise E911 Emergency Dialing service will not be available. We will give you two other secondary numbers in other areas in the USA and Canada for free. And remember if you want to move or change your address please update the service address with your new address by logging in your Olivoice Online Dashboard. ![]()
What do I need to do if I move to another location?
If you are moving or taking your Olivoice service away from the service address that you originally provided, you MUST contact us and provide your new service address location so that we update the Public Safety Answering Point, in order to correctly route 911 calls (provided 911 is available at your new location). ![]()
Do I need to test 911 dialing?
No, you do not need to test 911 Dialing if you have been notified by Olivoice that your 911 Dialing has been enabled. Please note that testing 911 Dialing when there is no emergency can be punishable by law in certain states, if you do choose to test 911 dialing, please do so only one time. When you call, make sure you immediately inform the PSAP operator that it is not an emergency and that you are just testing your alternative emergency service to confirm that it is working properly.![]()
What is the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP)?
A PSAP is a locally-operated, publicly-funded facility where 911 emergency calls are received and then routed to the proper emergency services, such as police, the fire department, etc. We use the address you provide us during registration to determine the nearest PSAP to you. ![]()
What is the difference between the 911 services on a traditional landline and Emergency Dialing on the Olivoice Service?
The difference between Olivoice Emergency Dialing Service and traditional 911 service is that Olivoice calls are routed to the general access line of a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), which is different from the 911 Emergency Response Center. You will need to state the nature of your emergency promptly and clearly, you might also need to provide your location and telephone number. ![]()
