Do I need a broadband connection to use Olivoice?
Yes, high speed internet (DSL or Cable) is a must for using the Olivoice service. The minimum speed required for the service is 128 Kbps upstream and downstream. 
Does the Olivoice service work with a dial up connection?
No, you must have a broadband or a high speed internet connection.
Does the Olivoice service work with wireless internet or does it require an Ethernet connection?
The Olivoice phone adapter connects to the internet via any Ethernet cable connection (what is Ethernet? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ethernet) so if you only have a wireless access point you will not be able to use the Olivoice service.
Does the Olivoice service work with a USB modem with no Ethernet connection?
If you choose to buy the telephone adapter at a discount from Olivoice, it will not work with a USB modem since the modem does not have an Ethernet connection. However, you can buy a telephone adapter that works with USB modems.
Does the service work with all Internet Service Providers (ISPs)?
The Olivoice service works with most ISPs, however the service does not always work with AOL. Check the following questions for more information.
I use AOL Cable Broadband. Will my connection work with the Olivoice service?
Your Olivoice service might not work with the AOL Cable Broadband service, because sometimes AOL Broadband authenticates the connection using a software client and is not compatible with the Olivoice service.
To check if your AOL Cable Broadband is compatible with the Olivoice service, please follow these steps:
Restart your computer, check to see if you can access the Internet using an Internet browser. If you can reach the Internet without having to connect to AOL then the service would be compatible with the Olivoice service.
I use AOL DSL. Will my connection work with the Olivoice service?
Yes, AOL DSL will work as it uses PPPoE authentication. Please call 1 888 277 VOIP (8647) for installation and troubleshooting once you receive the Sipura SPA2100 phone adapter, we will be happy to assist you.
If you would like to enter the PPPoE information alone please follow these steps, please read the information carefully:
1- Create a new AOL screen name designated for PPPoE login with a password that is all lowercase and alphanumeric with no special characters. This will allow the SPA2100 to log into AOL DSL to share your Internet connection.
2- Disconnect your AOL modem and connect the Sipura SPA2100 phone adapter to the computer through the Ethernet cable we provided you, it should be connected from the PC slot not the Wan. Then turn on your Sipura SPA2100 phone adapter.
3- Open a new browser page and enter in the address bar 192.168.7.1 if you received an error please enter 192.168.0.1 if you are prompted for a user name and password.

4- Then go to the Wan setup by clicking on the “Wan setup” tab. In the “Internet Connection Settings” choose the connection type as PPPoE. Below it you should find the PPPoE settings. Enter your new AOL screen name that you created in step 1 as your PPPOE Login Name, and enter the new password you chose as the PPPOE Login Password. Then at the bottom of the page click on “submit all changes” and wait for 10 seconds until the phone adapter restarts.
5- Turn off the Sipura SPA2100 phone adapter and unplug it from the computer. Now connect your AOL DSL modem to the Ethernet Wan slot in the Sipura SPA2100 phone adapter. Connect the Sipura SPA2100 phone adapter to your computer via the Ethernet PC slot.
6- Turn on your AOL DSL modem and wait for 30 seconds. Turn on your Sipura SPA2100 phone adapter and wait for another 30 seconds. Turn on your PC.
What is a telephone adapter?
A telephone adapter (also known as Analog Telephone adapter, or ATA) is a device used to connect standard analog telephones to a Voice over IP based network.
